Taiwan's Giant Isopod Ramen: Yay or Nay, Malaysia?
Hey foodies! If you're into bizarre eats, check out this ramen from The Ramen Boy in Taipei. It's got something you've probably never seen before!
Wanna Try This "Alien" Dish? Here's Where:
The Ramen Boy is located at No. 279, Section 2, Bade Road, Zhongshan District, Taipei City. Super easy to find, near the city centre, and easily accessible by MRT or taxi.
So, What's the Hype About These Isopods?
These crustaceans live deep (over 700m!) in the sea southwest of Kaohsiung. They look kinda like... aliens! 14 legs and a tough, armored shell. But the meat? Apparently, it's like a mix of king crab and lobster! Juicy, fragrant, sweet, slightly fatty, and not fishy at all.
A Limited Edition Ramen Bowl: Worth It?
Price: 1,480 TWD (around RM220)
Important! Only available for regulars who pre-order, and they only make a limited number each day. Each bowl is a work of art. The broth is made from chicken and dried tuna flakes, giving it a rich, naturally sweet flavor. No isopods are used in the broth itself!
The isopod is cleaned, and the fatty "yellow gland" (similar to crab roe) is kept. It's steamed and placed whole on top of the hot ramen. Talk about an Instagram moment!
Getting to The Ramen Boy is a Breeze:
Easiest way: From Zhongxiao Fuxing MRT station (blue or brown line), take Exit 5 and walk for about 10 minutes.
Should You Try It?
If you want a one-of-a-kind food adventure, different from anything traditional, then giant isopod ramen is a must-try! Not just unique but delicious and totally shareable on social media!
