My Parisian Vietnamese Food Adventure: Three Must-Try Spots
Alright, so let me tell you about my makan-makan adventure in Paris! During my trip in February, I managed to check out three Vietnamese restaurants, and each one was special in its own way. Let me share the best eats in Paris.
1. Song Heng: A Little Slice of Vietnam in Le Marais
Song Heng is tucked away in the 3rd arrondissement, kinda just north of Le Marais. The area is actually bursting with Chinese restaurants too!
The place is tiny, man! I arrived 15 minutes before they opened, and there was already a queue forming. Talk about popular! The menu is super simple: pho and bun bo nam bo – that's it! You can also order individual fried spring rolls (like, one at a time!). Most people were having a combo of pho and bun. The best part? They offer "petit" (small) portions! Plus, takeaway is available if you're rushing somewhere.
The staff were lovely and the whole vibe was just effortlessly chic – you know, very Parisian. Definitely worth the wait.
2. Ha Noi 1988: Scenic Views and Delicious Pho
Ha Noi 1988 sits on Île de la Cité, right after you cross the Pont Neuf from either the left or right bank. Location, location, location!
Again, pho and bun bo nam bo are the main stars here, but they offer a few different pho options like beef and chicken. Other dishes are available too, but focus on the Pho. The real draw is the incredible view of the Seine! It's the perfect stop before or after visiting Notre Dame Cathedral. Just a heads up: no toilet, eh!
3. Xin Gainian: Late-Night Comfort Food in Saint-Germain-des-Prés
Xin Gainian is on the left bank, along the road heading towards Pont Neuf from the Saint-Germain-des-Prés church area.
They have a mix of Vietnamese and Chinese dishes – ramen, fried rice, you name it! But the owners seem to be Vietnamese. The atmosphere was so welcoming and friendly. I went alone quite late, and it was no problem at all. I even saw an older man, maybe homeless, come in to ask for something, and the staff handled it with such kindness and warmth. This street is full of Asian eateries – skewers, BBQ, even a proper onigiri shop!
Seriously, all three were amazing! If I had to rank them, it would be in the order I've mentioned.
When you're spending a longer time in Paris, sometimes you just need something other than bread, right? These Vietnamese restaurants are the perfect way to get your fix with a little Parisian flair. Highly recommended lah!
