Trip to Hong Kong with the Geng: Memories from 6 Days 5 Nights
Just back from a trip to Hong Kong with my friends, and I wanted to jot down some feelings and experiences, both as a keepsake and hopefully to help anyone planning a trip there. We went for 6 days and 5 nights, completely self-planned, and honestly... there were moments of excitement, getting lost, and tired feet... but it was super fun and memorable!
Preparation Stage
- Visa: Did it myself.
- Currency: Exchanged some HKD in Malaysia beforehand, brought a credit card too.
- Octopus Card: Borrowed one.
- Tickets: Bought Disneyland, Ngong Ping cable car, and The Peak Tram tickets in advance via Klook – super convenient!
- Adapter: A 3-pin, square-headed adapter is a must.
Day 1: Arrival & Temple Street Night Market
Landed at the airport at 5:25 PM. We took the Airport Express to Kowloon Station, then a taxi to our hotel, Regal Kowloon Hotel.
That evening, we walked to Temple Street Night Market for dinner after hearing good reviews… but honestly, the food was salty, strong-smelling, tasted a bit off, and wasn't cheap.
Day 2: Disneyland Magic
Breakfast at Dimsum Here. Delicious food, especially the chicken feet.
Spent the whole day at Hong Kong Disneyland, from morning until the evening fireworks. Pro-tips: wear comfortable shoes as you'll be walking a lot, bring an umbrella because it gets very sunny, and bring an empty water bottle to refill with free water because drinks inside are expensive.
We were exhausted in the evening, so we bought instant noodles from 7-Eleven back at the hotel and ate them. Sedap!
Day 3: The Peak & Repulse Bay
In the morning, we went to The Peak Tram – we arrived early so didn't have to queue for long. Remember: sit on the right side of the tram going up to get the best views!
For lunch, we went for dim sum at Lin Heung Lau, a really authentic Hong Kong style restaurant – you choose your food from trolleys. So good.
In the afternoon, we took a bus to Repulse Bay. The beach was clean and not crowded. A little sad we didn't get to see the sunset as expected (because the sky was overcast), but the beach vibe was still very pleasant.
Day 4: Strolling & Shopping
In the morning, we visited Yick Fat Building, the High Court with its classic architecture, and stopped by Lan Fong Yuen to enjoy traditional Hong Kong milk tea.
In the evening, we went to the Avenue of Stars to watch the Symphony of Lights show. The only downside was that the area smelled quite strongly, a bit unpleasant, which affected the experience a bit. If you're sensitive to smells, consider wearing a mask or standing a bit further away.
Day 5: Ngong Ping 360
Took the cable car up to Ngong Ping in the morning, visited the Big Buddha, and the ancient village. If you are taking the cable car consider: choose the Crystal+ Cabin – with glass floor and walls. You'll see the whole view of the sea, mountains, airport, and sea bridge…
In the evening, we strolled around Tsim Sha Tsui, ate, and shopped.
Day 6: Heading Home
Woke up early to walk around and take pictures at the Avenue of Stars.
Checked out at 12 PM, left our luggage at the hotel to have lunch.
At 2 PM, we took a taxi to Kowloon Station → Airport Express to the airport. Arrived at the airport on time, relaxed, and had time to sit, rest, and buy some souvenirs.
