My Experience with TNG eWallet in Malaysia
Our family recently returned from a holiday trip to Kuala Lumpur. We primarily used the TNG eWallet app along with our Visa cards for payments. It was incredibly convenient, much like using ZaloPay, VNPay, or MoMo back home. What's even better is that it's secure for foreigners travelling in Malaysia, eliminating the need to carry a lot of cash.
Getting Started with TNG eWallet
To download and use the app, you'll need to verify your account using your passport. This process applies to all citizens from ASEAN countries.
Topping Up Your TNG eWallet
You can top up your eWallet using a credit card or a Visa/Mastercard debit card. There's a small fee for this. Alternatively, you can top up at any 7-Eleven store by purchasing a reload PIN. We tried topping up with our Woori Visa card for 100 RM and incurred a fee of about 2 RM. Topping up at 7-Eleven, however, was completely free of charge.
Making Payments in Malaysia
In Malaysia, you can make payments by scanning QR codes, or by letting the cashier scan your barcode. Direct transfers within Malaysia are also an option. You can use the TNG eWallet almost everywhere, except for places that strictly only accept cash.
For those small, unbanked expenses, like paying for public restroom facilities that don't accept cash or international cards, this eWallet is an absolute lifesaver!
