M Social Resort Penang: A Vibrant Stay by the Sea
We recently had the pleasure of staying at the newly refurbished M Social Resort Penang, conveniently located in Tanjung Bungah on the way to Batu Feringghi. The location is truly a win, with plenty of dining options nearby and a large Uniqlo outlet just a stone's throw away.
Our Stay Details: July 26-27, 2025
We snagged a fantastic deal on Agoda, with the price coming in under RM300, around RM270 for our dates. While we booked through a contact, this is a good ballpark figure. We opted out of breakfast, but the add-on price was about RM35 per person.
Room: Social Cosy King (32m²)
Check-in Experience
⭐⭐⭐
We arrived around 1:30 PM, but our room wasn't quite ready. By 2:40 PM, it still wasn't. We'd hoped for an early check-in as we arrived a bit ahead of schedule and saw other guests already settling in, assuming their rooms were ready. Our room finally became available at 3:00 PM.
Lobby Ambiance
⭐⭐⭐⭐
The lobby design is absolutely stunning, boasting a modern and chic aesthetic. With ample sofas for waiting, our one-and-a-half-hour wait felt comfortable and unhurried.
Room Interior, Cleanliness, and Amenities
⭐⭐⭐
- Pros: The room itself was beautiful, spacious, and cosy, complete with a balcony. The air conditioning was refreshingly cold, and the presence of a sofa bed was a nice touch. Cleanliness was up to par, and the large smart TV, which also functioned as a smart remote for in-room dining or requests, was a highlight. We loved all the new amenities, including the plush bathrobes – a personal favourite! Even the laundry bag was stylish, and the cute glasses made us wish we could buy them.
- Cons: We were surprised to find no iron in the room, nor a common ironing area. It turns out you need to request one. Our first request took about 30 minutes, and after calling again as checkout approached, we were told they were busy.
View from the Room
⭐⭐⭐
Our room didn't offer a sea view, but we understand rooms with a sea view are available.
Toilet Cleanliness and Toiletries
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
While there was no bathtub, the basic amenities like soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and toothbrushes were all provided. The shower featured a handheld option, and the water pressure was adequate.
Connectivity: Wi-Fi and Phone Signal
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Both the Wi-Fi and phone signal were strong and reliable during our stay.
Facilities: Gym, Swimming Pool, Spa, etc.
The resort offers a gym, a swimming pool, and beach access. On our visit, we discovered upon heading to the pool that it was closed for a private event from 5 PM to 8:30 PM. This was quite disappointing, especially since our children were already in their swimsuits and excited to jump in, and no one had informed us at check-in. Fortunately, we made the most of it by playing on the beach. At 8:30 PM, the pool reopened, and it was a lively scene with many waiting to swim. There's a decent adult pool (around 1.5m deep) and a kids' pool. What truly impressed us was the abundance of pool floaters available, a first for us to see so many freely provided.
Parking
⭐⭐⭐
Basement parking is available, but there's no lift access to the lobby, requiring a climb up the stairs. We ended up hauling our own luggage. Despite informing the staff of our room number when requesting assistance with our bags, it took multiple attempts, with the excuse being that the trolley numbers weren't written down.
Overall Stay
The room and hotel were beautiful, and the price was very affordable. With the pool and sea access, it felt like good value for money. However, we weren't entirely keen on repeating our stay due to slightly underwhelming service. It's possible we just had an unlucky experience. We had considered other options in the area, but M Social Resort Penang stood out as a new hotel to try. If you're looking for a budget-friendly option with great facilities, it's definitely worth considering.
