Parisian Chic: A Modern Take on Classic Champs-Élysées Architecture
For my 20th post, I want to share my latest discovery: a beautifully renewed classical building right on the Champs-Élysées. As a huge fan of Paris and someone who studies architectural design, both old and new, I make regular trips to soak it all in. This weekend, I'm bringing you some exciting updates on modern Parisian architecture.
Publisys Drugstore: A Glass Marvel Near the Arc de Triomphe
First up, a sight many of you will recognise near the Arc de Triomphe – the glass-fronted Publisys Drugstore. This long-standing establishment first opened its doors in 1958, a vision by the founder of the renowned French advertising agency, Publisys, who saw the need for a place selling essential goods even late at night. The building underwent a full exterior renovation in 2004, expertly handled by Italian architect Michele Saee, giving it its current stunning glass facade.
Lacoste Champs-Élysées Store: Embracing the Future
Next, we have the Lacoste Champs-Élysées store, which was completely renovated in 2022. Even amidst the pandemic, prominent brands like Lacoste were looking ahead, integrating digital elements and experiential design into their spaces. I personally found the design incredibly appealing, a testament to forward-thinking retail.
Galeries Lafayette Champs-Élysées: A Tunnel of Light
Adjacent to Lacoste is the Galeries Lafayette Champs-Élysées. Its entrance is particularly captivating – a tunnel of light, with the floor, walls, and ceiling all illuminated. It's fascinating to see this futuristic design seamlessly blend with the classical architecture of the area.
The Champs-Élysées, while timeless in its grandeur, constantly evolves at eye level. This blend of the enduring and the innovative is what makes Paris so uniquely Parisian, a sentiment I deeply appreciate from my visits.
