Zhangjiajie Adventure: A Packed Day at the Grand Canyon and Yellow Dragon Cave
Planning a trip to Zhangjiajie? Here's a handy guide to experiencing the breathtaking Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon and the wondrous Yellow Dragon Cave all in one unforgettable day.
Morning Kick-off: Wulingyuan to Grand Canyon
We recommend basing yourself in Wulingyuan for easy access. Our day began bright and early around 8 am. We grabbed a delicious and affordable local breakfast, costing about 5-10 yuan per person, with a little extra set aside for lunch. For a family of four, a taxi to the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon entrance is a cost-effective option at around 40-50 yuan, more so than taking the bus.

Ticket prices are as follows:
- Adults: 289 yuan
- Students: 178 yuan
For students, remember to bring your photo ID (like your passport), student ID, and a document confirming your bachelor's level studies, which can even be an online printout. These tickets cover the iconic glass bridge, a VR experience, a thrilling zip line or elevators depending on your chosen route, the fun slideway, and two relaxing boat rides. For the adrenaline junkies, optional activities like bungee jumping are available for 1999 yuan, and rock climbing for 45 yuan.
Exploring the Canyon's Wonders
Once you have your tickets, head over to the Glass Bridge. Don't forget to put on the provided shoe covers! On the other side, you'll find a restaurant and the rock climbing area. If you're feeling brave, bungee jumping is also offered right from the bridge itself.
Following this, enjoy a scenic walk along the cliff face, leading to a brief VR experience that gives you the sensation of soaring around the canyon in a hot air balloon.
From this point, you have two paths to reach the other side. You can opt for the exhilarating zip line across the canyon, followed by the fun slideway. Alternatively, if heights aren't your thing, a series of elevators and shorter walks will take you there. Both routes converge at Rainbow Lake.
Next, embark on a short boat cruise along the lake at the canyon's base. Afterwards, a 40-50 minute walk allows you to soak in the magnificent canyon views and pass through a small cave. Another boat ride marks the end of your Grand Canyon adventure.
Afternoon Journey: Grand Canyon to Yellow Dragon Cave
By around 4 pm, you'll be exiting the Grand Canyon. From the car park, a quick 15-minute taxi ride to the Yellow Dragon Cave entrance costs about 25 yuan. Alternatively, coaches are available for 10 yuan per person.

Ticket prices for Yellow Dragon Cave are:
- Adults: 130 yuan
- Students: 65 yuan
Please note that the last entry to the scenic area is at 5:30 pm.
Prepare for an approximately 1.5-hour guided tour through the mesmerizing caves. You'll be captivated by the spectacular stalactite and stalagmite formations, enhanced by impressive light projections. The tour also includes a delightful boat ride within the cave system.
Returning to Wulingyuan
After your cave exploration, a short 10-minute taxi ride will take you back to Wulingyuan for about 15 yuan. It's a perfect end to a day filled with natural wonders and adventure.
