Getting There
You can easily book your ferry tickets to the island on the Catalina Express website. 🚢 We traveled from Long Beach to Avalon and returned from Avalon to Long Beach. The journey takes about an hour each way, bringing you to this beautiful island paradise. 🏝️
Getting Around the Island
If you drive to Long Beach, there are convenient parking facilities available. 🚗 Upon arrival on Catalina Island, renting a golf cart is a popular way to explore some of the key photo spots around the island. 📷
- Important Note: Golf cart rentals are cash only and require a valid driver's license. You must be 25 years or older to rent. 🪪
Alternatively, you can rent bicycles, which are a more budget-friendly option. However, be prepared for uphill climbs as cycling around the island involves some challenging inclines. Seeing others push their bikes uphill can be quite a sight! 😂
For the more adventurous, hiking is also a great option. 🚶 Several scenic viewpoints are within walking distance, so if you enjoy a good trek, you can certainly explore on foot.

The island offers numerous picturesque locations, and you'll find that almost anywhere you snap a photo will turn out beautifully. 🉑 I actually found myself so captivated that I didn't even take out my main camera! I used my phone with the Dazz app, and the results were fantastic. 👀

Delicious Dining Options
Bluewater Avalon: This is a very popular seafood restaurant on the island with stunning ocean views. 🌊 Opt for an outdoor seat by the water! I highly recommend the scallops; they were truly delicious and unlike anything I've tasted elsewhere. 🐚 The other dishes were good, but the scallops were a standout.
Scoops: A beloved ice cream spot! 🍧 I tried three scoops, and the portions were incredibly generous. I felt like I could eat ice cream forever! 😂 The flavors were generally on the sweeter side.
Activities for Overnight Stays
If you decide to stay overnight, the island offers even more activities like kayaking, 🚣 scenic drives in open-top cars to spot wild bison, 🦬 snorkeling, 🤿 submarine tours to see marine life, 🐟 parasailing, 🪂 and ziplining. Remember to book your activities in advance! 📧
