Shanghai Natural History Museum: A Dinosaur Lover's Dream Destination
If you find yourself in Shanghai and have a soft spot for prehistoric giants, then the Shanghai Natural History Museum is an absolute must-visit. This magnificent institution is spread across five levels, offering an immersive journey through the natural world. It's particularly a paradise for anyone fascinated by dinosaurs, with exhibits that are truly awe-inspiring. We found the museum to be immaculately maintained, incredibly tidy, and wonderfully welcoming to international visitors. The staff were exceptionally helpful throughout our exploration.
One of the standout features is the clarity of information. Almost every exhibit proudly displays its biological names in English alongside Chinese, making it incredibly accessible even if you don't have a local companion. This bilingual approach ensures that everyone can appreciate the vast collection of species. We noticed that while many exhibits were informative, the naming conventions were consistently scientific, which is a testament to the museum's dedication to accurate biological representation.
Beyond the educational displays, the museum also caters to your comfort and enjoyment. You'll discover various shops scattered throughout, though we did find one in the B2 level to be on the pricier side. For refreshments, you're well covered with numerous restaurants, ice cream bars, and convenient drink kiosks readily available to keep you energized as you explore.
The museum boasts a diverse array of sections covering everything from intricate art and meticulously preserved animal specimens to fascinating scientific discoveries. Spending a full day here is akin to embarking on a global expedition, packed with learning and wonder. It's a truly enriching experience that we highly recommend for a memorable day out.
