Palm Garden Hotel, Putrajaya: My Stay in the Areca Room
Palm Garden Hotel in Putrajaya is one of my absolute favourite hotels. I always feel so comfortable staying here, mostly because I love all the greenery surrounding the place. The moment you step into the courtyard, you automatically feel a sense of calm and relaxation. Even though it's an open-air concept, it doesn't feel hot at all; the breeze is surprisingly strong.
I highly recommend visiting the courtyard both in the morning and at night to experience different vibes. In the morning, it's so peaceful, like a little escape from the city. At night, it transforms into a romantic setting with soft lighting and a beautiful atmosphere. The courtyard is my go-to spot for relaxing. You'll also find Kopi Dulu there, a great place for afternoon tea serving local kuih-muih, snacks, kopi, and teh.
Areca Room: A Suite Experience
This time around, I opted for a bigger room called the Areca Room. It's a spacious 495 sqft with a king-sized bed, sofa, living room, dining area, and even a dry kitchen. It's practically a suite! The bed was incredibly comfortable with plush pillows, and the room was spotless. The view from the room overlooked the road, filled with lush greenery. The room had a mini fridge, capsule coffee machine, safe, ironing facilities, kettle, and hairdryer, and everything was in perfect working order.
As for the bathroom, it had a modern bathroom, shower, and toilet. The shower foam and shampoo had a lovely woody and slightly citrusy, almost masculine scent. I was extremely satisfied with the Areca Room; it was spacious, comfortable, and clean.
Durian Hub: A Local Delight
During my stay, the hotel had just launched its Durian Hub, a collaboration with Agro Best Service Malaysia, a company that sells and exports premium durians across ASEAN. The Durian Hub is open every Friday to Sunday from 5 pm to 9 pm. While I'm not the biggest durian fan, I was intrigued by their sharing about the durian plantation located in Balik Pulau. They offered several durian varieties such as Musang King, Black Thorn, and Udang Merah, as well as local fruits like mangosteen and rambutan. Prices depend on the current market rates, and you can also order Ais Kacang from Kopi Dulu. The portion is huge, perfect for sharing among 3-4 people, and you can even add durian as a topping. There's also a busker performance at 7 pm.
Dining Experiences: Grill Nites Buffet & Breakfast at Palm Cafe
After indulging in durian, I had dinner at Palm Cafe to try their Grill Nites Buffet. It's priced at RM98 nett for adults and RM78 for children, available only on Fridays and Saturdays from 6.30 pm to 10 pm. The highlight of the buffet is Thai cuisine, but I'm a big fan of Western food. I sampled several dishes such as Lamb Black Pepper, Chicken Wing, Grilled Squid, Mashed Potato, Seafood on Ice, salads, and a variety of cakes. Everything was delicious; the food here is simply the best! For breakfast, I returned to Palm Cafe. This time, I tried local dishes like Nasi Lemak, Nasi Goreng, Daging Masak Hitam, and Rendang Ayam. I absolutely loved the Daging Masak Hitam; the meat was incredibly tender, and the gravy was delicious! Avocado and Smoked Salmon were the most popular items during breakfast, and the staff kept restocking them. Drink options included coffee, fruit juice, detox smoothies, and tea. The pastries here are also delicious, with a rich buttery flavour and not too sweet.
Relaxation and Amenities
Before checking out, I managed to relax at the cabana by the swimming pool. Palm Garden has two types of swimming pools, with a slide in the kids' pool. The adult pool has plenty of seating for relaxation. There's also a new attraction called Kid Zone, but I didn't have time to visit it due to time constraints. For parents visiting Palm Garden, you can check out this fully air-conditioned indoor playground, located opposite the gym. A day stay here isn't enough! There are plenty of delicious dining options, and the location is strategic near IOI City Mall. The hotel provides a shuttle bus every hour, and you can get off at Moxy Hotel, located next to the shopping mall.
