Exploring Modern Architecture: The Musée des Confluences in Lyon, Malaysia Style
Following up on my previous post about Lyon, let's dive into part two! Today we're exploring the south of the historic district, right where the Rhône and Saône rivers meet – a revitalized area that's home to the amazing Musée des Confluences. A place where science and society meet!
As someone who absolutely loves architecture, both old and new, and regularly travels to Europe, especially to check out architectural designs, I wanted to share this gem I found: a showcase of modern design that really stood out.
A Crystal Cloud: Design by Coop Himmelb(l)au
Completed in late 2014, the Musée des Confluences was designed by the Austrian architectural firm Coop Himmelb(l)au. These guys are known worldwide for their incredible designs, including the Groninger Museum and the BMW Welt (BMW's exhibition center for its vintage cars). I have visited the BMW Welt before, and the detail is amazing!
The museum's design is meant to evoke a crystal cloud, and let me tell you, the building is incredibly futuristic! The innovative architectural approach used makes it a must-see destination for design enthusiasts.
Dinosaurs in Lyon?!
Apparently, the museum houses over 2 million items! But the real crowd-pleasers are the two Tyrannosaurus rex specimens. After hearing that, I couldn't help but see the building as a giant dinosaur myself! It's truly a spectacle.
