Travel Tip: Gampang Payment in Thailand with Your Malaysian Banks!
Using Your Favorite MY Apps in Thailand
So, you're jalan-jalan in Thailand and spot a QR code with "Cross-Border QR Payment" label? Jangan risau! Give your VCB, Zalopay, or any banking app on your phone a try. Scan je!
Confirm boleh! I tried with VCB and Zalopay myself. Smooth sailing!
(Tak sure about other banks lah, I'm a VCB kinda person myself). Just a heads up, some Thai restaurants or hotels prefer QR payment, or have minimum spending for credit cards.
A Word of Caution: Ringgit vs Baht!
Remember, when entering the payment amount, be extra careful with the currency! Don't be like me, automatically thinking in Ringgit, where transfers are usually big amounts.
Sending a six-figure sum in Baht is SERIOUSLY a lot of money!
The other day, I was enjoying some delicious chicken rice for 387 Baht, and my fingers went into autopilot, typing 387,000 Baht! Nasib baik VCB flagged it, saying, "Eh, you're a student, you don't have that much money!" 🤣
But if you're someone with deep pockets and accidentally transfer that much, it'll be a hassle to sort it out. So, be mindful, okay?
