My Stay in China: Hotel Reviews (Shanghai, Suzhou, Ouzhen, Nanxun, Hangzhou)

Hello everyone! Recently, I explored Shanghai, Suzhou, Ouzhen, Nanxun and Hangzhou, staying at six different hotels. Overall, I was satisfied with the hotels C they were clean and centrally located, with Trip.com ratings above 9.5. This post kicks off with a review of my Hangzhou hotel experience. These are purely my personal experiences, so please consider them as just one data point!

Hangzhou Hotel Reviews

1. Zety Hotel (Hubin Xihu Longxiangqiao Subway Station Branch Hangzhou) (臻庭酒店(杭州西湖湖滨龙翔桥地铁站店)

Let me start with my favourite! This is a small, newly opened 4-star hotel. I highly recommend staying here when you visit Hangzhou.

Price: Weekdays MYR 160, weekends MYR 250

Pros: The staff are incredibly enthusiastic and helpful. There are only three receptionists, but they are all very dedicated, especially the male receptionist who even helped me walk to my previous hotel to retrieve my luggage. The location is superb, just 400m from Hubin Yintai (a large shopping mall) and 600m from West Lake, with plenty of eateries nearby. The hotel is small but the rooms are quite spacious. The standard room I stayed in was around 26-30m2, with modern and clean facilities, and a Dyson hairdryer. They provide welcome fruit, a bedtime soup, and free laundry service. There's a viewing area on the 6th floor, but it was raining, so I didn't get to see it.

Cons: The breakfast selection isn't very diverse, but it covers the basics. The food is just okay. The staff clearing the tables are a bit noisy; they aren't very gentle when clearing things, which bothered me slightly. There are only two elevators, so you might have to wait during peak hours.

2. JI Hotel (Hangzhou West Lake Hubin Pedestrian Street) (全季酒店(杭州西湖湖滨步行街店)

This one gets a thumbs down from me. I chose to stay here on my first day in Hangzhou because it's very close to West Lake and a hotel chain that many Malaysian friends have recommended. Even though I knew it was only a 3-star hotel, I thought it would be okay, especially since I paid a premium for it that day. However, due to the reasons below, I had to call Trip.com at 7am the next morning to cancel my reservation for the following night and switch to the Zety Hotel mentioned above.

Price: Weekdays MYR 110, weekends MYR 135. I went during the Duanwu Festival long weekend, so the price was MYR 200.

Pros: Good location, about 600-700m from West Lake and Hubin Yintai. Basically, this hotel and the Zety Hotel above are very close to each other, so both are convenient in terms of location. The staff are decent, not overly enthusiastic, but they will answer your questions if you ask. Breakfast is cheap, MYR 3.5 per person. It has the basics, but the food isn't very delicious.

Cons: BUT the rooms are tiny. I booked a Queen room with a window, and I didn't expect it to be so small. It doesn't look too bad in the photos, but in reality, opening two small suitcases filled the entire space. The bed is only 1.5m wide, which is cramped for two girls. The mattress is soft, making my back hurts. The room doesn't feel very clean, and the facilities are just adequate.
