Hong Kong Tram Cheongsam Adventure: Back to the Golden Age of Swaying Cheongsams

Wearing the elegance of a bygone era, stepping onto Hong Kong's century-old tram, a journey through time quietly begins. How would you kick off your Hong Kong adventure? Through Central's bustling pedestrian crossings? Or a leisurely stroll along Victoria Harbour? This time, I discovered a different way to experience Hong Kong: wearing a cheongsam, sitting on a "1920s" panoramic sightseeing tram, slowly appreciating Hong Kong's charm from Sheung Wan to Causeway Bay. This is a collaboration between The Langham Hong Kong and Hong Kong Tramways: the "Tram Cheongsam Tour" event.

First Stop

Check into The Langham Hong Kong, Causeway Bay, and pick up the package.

Second Stop

After a short rest, head to "Yeung Cheong Kee" cheongsam shop on Wing Lee Street in Central to choose and rent your favourite cheongsam. Once you're dressed and ready, walk out of the store with a bit of excitement. On the way to the tram terminus, I couldn't resist taking photos – after all, the cheongsam is perfect for us women!

Third Stop

Arrive at the tram terminus and board the vintage tram designed in the style of the 1920s. Wooden benches and open windows instantly transport you back to the past. At 16:15, the tram slowly departs from the Sheung Wan terminus. Sitting by the window, let the breeze caress your hair. Sitting on the upper deck of the tram, the scenery flashes by like scenes from a movie: Central's modern buildings, Wan Chai's local life, and Causeway Bay's neon lights. The tram's unique rhythm provides the most authentic soundtrack for this Hong Kong Island adventure.

An hour later, the tram slowly arrives at the Causeway Bay terminus. We were still immersed in the experience. Back at the hotel...

Fourth Stop

Head to Salon Lanson on the first floor of the hotel and order a special cocktail, "The World of Suzie Wong," inspired by the film of the same name. A sip of the sweet and sour drink with a hint of intoxication brings to mind the beautiful scenery of Hong Kong in the 1960s. Happy hour provides a perfect ending to this journey.

I booked the "Cheongsam Time" accommodation package, which includes: one night's stay at the hotel + panoramic tram ride for two + cheongsam rental for two + cocktail discount for two (weekends only, 5.17–8.17).

The Langham Hong Kong, Causeway Bay, is a luxury boutique hotel that creates a warm and upscale place to stay in the heart of Causeway Bay. It was renovated last year, with interior design by French designer Pierre-Yves Rochon. The style is simple yet luxurious, and the atmosphere is very comfortable. Located on the first floor, Salon Lanson offers all-day dining and cocktail hours.

This summer, slow down, bring a heart ready to appreciate the moment, and come here to enjoy the city.
