Oryz Saigon: A Culinary Journey Through Chợ Lớn
This marks my third visit to Oryz, and their Saturday set menu, "Chợ Lớn," truly captured my heart. It's a delightful experience that I'm excited to share, especially for my fellow Malaysians who appreciate good food!
Flavours of Childhood Reimagined
The restaurant artfully recreates iconic street food dishes from the Chinese community in Chợ Lớn. Expect familiar flavours from your childhood, maybe like phá lấu or noodle soup, meticulously presented. Think classic dishes like wontons, dumplings, hủ tiếu hồ, and century egg congee. While the names remain familiar, Oryz cleverly elevates them with exciting ingredients, creating a burst of flavour and pure delight.
Fermentation Magic & My Top 3 Dishes
One aspect that's both a strength and a point of discussion is Oryz's extensive use of house-made fermented ingredients. They even have a dedicated lab upstairs for fermenting everything, from the simple to the most complex elements. Describing all the delicious dishes would take forever, so I'll highlight my top three: Oryz's phở bò, Chaozhou-style phá lấu, and Hainanese chicken rice.
Impeccable Service & Value
Unlike some other fine dining experiences where some dishes might miss the mark, Oryz consistently delivers a delicious meal. What truly sets them apart is the attentive and meticulous service from the staff throughout the meal, making every ringgit feel worthwhile.
