Escape the Ordinary: Jinhua Xiaobingdao, China's Emerald Lake
Ever heard of the InterContinental Shanghai Wonderland, the stunning hotel built into a quarry? Well, prepare to be amazed by something equally breathtaking, but without the hefty price tag!
This isn't that fancy Shanghai hotel, although the pictures might make you think otherwise. Nope, this gem is Jinhua Xiaobingdao, also known as Little Iceland, in Zhejiang Province, China. It's a total hidden treasure!
The Adventure Begins: From Hangzhou to Xiaobingdao
Inspired by my sister's dream to visit, we embarked on an early morning adventure. A 50-minute train ride from Hangzhou to Jinhua (costing 94 yuan), followed by a 40-minute taxi (58 yuan), led us to this incredible spot. Entrance fees were 78 yuan (including a drink!).
So, for just 230 yuan, we experienced a unique landscape, a worthy alternative to the Shanghai hotel. There's plenty more to explore nearby too!
What Makes Jinhua Xiaobingdao Special?
- Unique Scenery: This former limestone quarry has been transformed into a stunning tourist destination.
- Nordic Vibes: With its emerald lake, dark cliffs, and a large wooden boat, it feels like a slice of Iceland right here in China.
- Perfect Photo Op: It's quickly becoming a social media hotspot, drawing visitors seeking amazing travel snapshots.
Pro Tip: Beat the Crowds
Arrive early to make the most of your visit and escape the afternoon crowds. You can explore at leisure and even consider moving on to another province later in the day.
Extend Your Trip: Hengdian World Studios
If you have more time, consider a trip to Hengdian World Studios, often called the "Hollywood of China". Explore large-scale replicas of historical landmarks like the Ming and Qing Dynasty Palaces. I haven't been myself, but I'd love to hear about your experience if you've visited before!
Opening Hours: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM daily.
