My Hoi An Getaway: A Malaysian's Review
Hey guys, let me share my recent Valentine's Day trip to Hoi An! Hopefully, this gives you some ideas.
Getting There & Finding Accommodation
The journey from Da Nang to Hoi An took us about 40 minutes. We tried finding a villa on Facebook and TikTok but everywhere was fully booked because of the holiday. So, a tip from me to you - book way in advance! Luckily, a friend recommended a villa where, by some miracle, the previous guests had just checked out. What a relief!
Coffee Break at Trinh Cafe
While waiting for the villa to be cleaned, we went for coffee at Trinh Cafe. The cafe is breezy, right by the river, and the view is amazing! I think the Hoi An coconut water and butter coffee are their bestsellers, and honestly, they live up to the hype. A glass costs only 42k, and the quality is legit! The butter was creamy, fragrant, and smooth, blending perfectly with the coffee – *chef's kiss*. I didn't try the coconut water, so can't comment on that. Oh, and I used my membership card from c.nhung and got a 10% discount! Overall, I was very happy there - pretty cafe, nice atmosphere, great photo spots, delicious drinks, friendly staff, and a discount on top of it all. 100/10!
Checking In and Exploring the Ancient Town
After coffee, we went back to check in and sign the rental agreement. The villa cost 1400k for one day and one night (already discounted by 100k!), with a 1000k deposit. The villa was beautiful and had all the amenities, including a swimming pool, billiards table, and BBQ area. It's located at 10 Huynh Ngoc Hue. Check it out! After settling in, we headed out to explore Hoi An Ancient Town.
We strolled around the Ancient Town, took pictures, and tried some street food. A glass of lime tea cost only 15k – perfect for quenching our thirst after all that walking! Then, we stopped at a random restaurant along the way; I can't remember the name, but they had a menu with clearly displayed prices. The banh dap was 25k, cao lau 30k, and mi quang also 30k. Super cheap and delicious! Walking back, we saw grilled sausage and grilled cheese stalls. I bought grilled cheese for 40k per stick, but had to wait because the vendor seemed to prioritize foreign tourists first. He took their order and payment before finally serving me.
BBQ Night at the Villa
We headed back to the villa and bought some snacks for a BBQ. It was amazing! Just bring your favourite food and everything else is provided. There's even a TV or karaoke speaker. Just note that the music has to be turned off by 10pm. Perfect!
Morning Coffee at DuCa Cafe
In the morning, I went for a swim and then walked to DuCa Cafe nearby. It's a small place, but the coffee is great. I ordered brown sugar milk tea with egg cream - so fragrant and creamy! It's at 15 Huynh Ngoc Hue. There was only one staff member working, so you kind of have to fend for yourself a bit, but the drink was good, so 9/10.
Checking Out
Check-out was at 11am. Before leaving, we cleaned up the villa, and the owners returned our 1000k deposit. If you don't clean, you'll be charged a cleaning fee! I'd rate the villa and the staff 10/10. They were so helpful, friendly, and attentive. And that's the end of my fun and memorable trip to Hoi An!
